RESEARCH SURVEY

"You Make Me Feel Good, I Like It": North American Queer Asian Rave Culture, Gaysian Identity, and Finding Utopia” (UBC Behavioral Research Ethics Board Case Number: H22-01764)

I am looking for study participants who identify as gaysian ravers to answer a 20-min survey or a 1–2-hour interview online (or both!). So little has been explored about the subcultures of POC within the rave community, yet POC are the foundation of EDM culture and music. If you are not aware, EDM and rave culture has its specific roots in Black and Latino communities in Chicago and New York in the 80's. This survey seeks to highlight the importance of another queer and racialized group in the formation of contemporary rave culture, music, and community as not just important to the development of the major genres of EDM, but also to give a broad overview of the gaysian experiences in the raving community which is sorely missing from the academic literature about raves.

If you’d like to contact me for access to the final project or to answer any questions or concerns that you have, you can email Dr. M Gillian Carrabre at mgilliancarrabre@ubc.ca or me at aq0830@student.ubc.ca. If you could also pass this link along to others that fit the criteria for this study, I would very much appreciate it.
